Foligno 17/19 September – Seventh edition of the vintage bike ride “La Francescana” and the first “Umbria Bike Fest”. A real feast of cycling taking place from 17 to 19 September in Foligno on the occasion of the stage of the Giro d’Italia d’Epoca with the seventh edition of the vintage bike ride “La Francescana”.

An appointment that has become a classic at the end of the summer, thanks to the enthusiasm of Giada Bollati and Luca Radi, supported, as always, by Simone and Daniele of Cicli Clementi, Pamela Micanti and Daniela Fabbricini, who are preparing to expand their proposal with the first edition of “Umbria Bike Fest”. A wide and varied container on the world of cycling welcomed by the Municipality of Foligno, always sensitive to the world of two wheels.
This opens a new cycle, inclusive, educational and popular, which has as its subject the bicycle in all its forms, a decisive and courageous leap in quality. Giada and Luca and the Clementi brothers, Daniele and Simone, could have quietly enjoyed the remarkable success of “La Francescana” but chose to play the game on the table of involvement and discussion at every level. Therefore, not only sport and historical memory, but the story and the sharing of a cycling that changes and attracts an increasing number of practitioners, including those, especially young people, to whom Bartali and Coppi are unknown names.
The great merit of the whole “Franciscan” team is precisely that of looking to the future while remaining faithful to the passion for historical cycling.
Debates and round tables will alternate with workshops and cycle-tourism rides along the permanent routes of “La Francescana”, a miscellany of proposals all aimed at expanding and promoting the bicycle as a multifaceted “tool” with which it is possible to experience a kaleidoscope of experiences ranging from daily use to great journeys; from competitions to “slow” cycle tourism and the discovery of the territory.
It will be a full programme of events with a long list of guests, all called upon to talk about that magical device with wheels and pedals that we learn to use as children, immediately after walking, and then interpret that new and faster movement as a sport, necessity, pleasure or means of transport now called alternative while in our cities the car should be the alternative to the common use of the bicycle.
The central moment of the four days of the UBF will be on 19 September with “La Francescana” (for registration www.lafrancescanaca.it) , a not-to-be-missed appointment for lovers of cycling memory and good food, which, as is traditional, relieves pushing on the pedals with excessively long gears, slowing down with treacherous brakes, replacing torn palmer. These are vintage bikes: they do not give discounts and for this very reason they are also witnesses of a time when if you wanted to court you had to put your face and not the “emoji” on a smartphone.
