Ethan Hayter won the most difficult stage of the Volta ao Algarve and now leads also the general classification of the Portuguese stage race. The young Brit of the Ineos Grenadiers won the second stage of the Volta ao Algarve, the Sagres-Foia of 182.8, sprinting in front of the Portuguese Rodrigues and the Spanish Landa in the sprint, with Gesbert, Sosa and Henao following in the finishing order. Alan Boileau (B&B Hotels) won his third stage in this Tour du Rwanda and the Eritrean Metkel Eyob of the Terengganu Cycling Team took the lead of the general classification. The group arrived fragmented on the sharp final climb in the fifth stage ending in Kigali and Boileau preceded Alexis Vuillermoz (Team Total Direct Energie) and the new race leader Eyob.
